AEA R88

The AEA R88 is a stereo ribbon microphone known for its clear sound and natural stereo imaging. The R88 features two Big Ribbon elements positioned at a 90° angle—using the Blumlein stereo technique—to capture a true stereo sound with a single microphone. It offers a spacious sound without the complexity of a multi-microphone setup. The R88 employs AEA's Large Ribbon Geometry (LRG), delivering effortless low-end response down to 20Hz, a quality rarely achieved with smaller ribbon microphones.

The R88 captures spaces as they sound live, with all their subtleties and nuances intact. Its balanced low-end response makes it exceptionally effective for capturing the full breadth of sound from the back of a room or as drum overheads.

Alongside the AEA N8, the R88 boasts the widest frequency range of all AEA microphones and effortlessly handles complex audio sources such as drums, strings, piano, and other instruments with intricate transients, harsh highs, and deep lows.
