Focal Trio6 ST6 (Single)

The Focal Trio6 Be model caused quite a stir previously. Now, Focal raises the stakes with its successor, simply named Trio6. By incorporating numerous updates, this active speaker is essentially three monitors in one. Featuring a state-of-the-art driver complement consisting of an 8-inch woofer, a 5-inch midrange, and a 1.5-inch tweeter, the Trio6 offers 3-way reference quality monitoring with a frequency response from 35Hz to 40kHz. It functions as a main/medium-field monitor in small to medium-sized control rooms. Like its predecessor, the Trio6’s Focus mode provides 2-way monitoring using the 5-inch driver and tweeter, restricting frequencies between 80Hz and 40kHz. However, the Trio6 also offers a new Focus mode that uses only the 5-inch midrange. With a frequency response from 100Hz to 15kHz, this mode offers a modern version of the classic "cube" speakers that have been staples on console meter bridges for decades. For optimal integration and acoustic positioning, the Trio6 features a rotating tweeter/midrange panel for flexible vertical or horizontal placement.
2-Way Focus Mode
In 2-way mode, the Focal Trio6 uses only its 5-inch midrange driver and tweeter, limiting frequencies between 80Hz and 40kHz. This setup is ideal for checking your mix quality on systems with limited low-frequency response. While less extended at the lower end, the frequency response curve of the 2-way setup is identical to the 3-way curve of the Trio6, giving you an instant and perfect comparison that preserves the stereo spectrum and allows you to focus on the critical midrange frequencies, which are key for creating a good mix that translates to the world outside your studio.
1-Way Focus Mode
In the 1970s, small cube-shaped speakers began appearing on console meter bridges and soon became ubiquitous in both large and small studio control rooms. Designed to provide a "real world" reference, they were intended to emulate the sound of car radios, transistor radios, and other systems with questionable quality and limited frequency range. Today, with the constant advancement of technology that has greatly improved the performance of even affordable audio equipment, a new "real world" reference is needed, and you’ll find it in the Focal Trio6’s one-way Focus mode. It’s ideal for checking how your mix will sound on everything from common TVs and computer speakers to the Bluetooth speaker hanging in the shower.
Optimized Bass Response
The Focal Trio6 features two front bass-reflex ports that ensure the 5-inch “W” composite sandwich cone midrange driver performs identically across all Focus modes. The 8-inch “W” composite sandwich cone woofer has its own large laminar port integrated into the front deflector. With no concerns about rear port saturation, the front ports allow for easier placement of your monitors near a wall while maintaining superior low-frequency linearity. Furthermore, the large front port on the 8-inch woofer provides consistent bass performance at any SPL.
Focal Inverted Dome Be Tweeter
A hallmark of Focal is its inverted dome tweeter, and it plays a big part in the Trio6’s incredible performance. The particular advantage of the inverted dome is that it optimizes the mechanical coupling between the moving coil and the dome. Because the moving coil is attached halfway up the dome, it can uniformly move the entire surface of the Trio6's cone. This design inherently offers high efficiency, precision, and energy, resulting in an extremely precise soundstage. Add to that the use of beryllium for the Trio6's dome, a material known for its incredible stiffness, and you have a speaker that extends to 40 kHz with almost perfect linearity.
Focal “W” Composite Sandwich Cone
The Trio6 utilizes Focal’s “W” composite sandwich cone for both its 5-inch midrange driver and its 8-inch woofer. The unique characteristics of the cone allow for optimized frequency response, thanks to full control of three key parameters: lightness, stiffness, and damping. The sound is remarkably transparent, with excellent phase response and extremely low distortion. Moreover, the 5-inch midrange driver resides in its own isolated chamber within the cabinet, preventing vibration from other drivers while optimizing acoustic performance.
You Can Trust Focal Monitors
With their extended frequency response and precise imaging, Focal monitors are designed to reproduce your audio signal with unwavering accuracy. But beyond their impressive performance, they are also designed for flexible and seamless integration into your studio. A fixture in world-class control rooms globally, the best engineers, producers, and artists trust Focal monitors to tell them the truth about what they are recording. With your Focal Trio6 studio monitors from Sweetwater, you can do the same. Featuring an advanced design with the unprecedented versatility of dual Focus modes, the Trio6 is a serious professional tool that will help you deliver a superior-sounding product, project after project.
