Crystallizer is a creative, otherworldly effect that transforms instruments with a combination of pitch shifting and reverse echo. Based on the innovative "Reverse Shift" algorithm from the Eventide H3000, Crystallizer combines granular echo cutting, old-school pitch shifting, and new, powerful features into an inspiring tool.

Since the founders of Soundtoys designed the algorithms for the original H3000, you can be sure we didn’t rest until we perfectly recreated its icy tones. One of the key elements of the Crystallizer sound is its old-school pitch shifting. Modern pitch shifters (like our Little AlterBoy, for example) use sophisticated mathematical algorithms to transform music and vocals in the most natural way possible. Classic old-school devices (like the legendary Eventide Harmonizer H910) used a simpler resampling and crossfade technique that introduced audible artifacts into the pitch-shifted audio. This retro technique adds a glitchy character to the sound, which is a vital part of Crystallizer’s 80s futuristic charm.

Once we nailed the sound of the original effect, we didn’t stop there. We set to work improving it. We added MIDI sync and automation to offer you precise creative control. The built-in Gate and Duck feature adds a new level of dynamic control over the triggering echoes, helping you keep this sometimes wild effect under control. You can also shape the sound with low and high cut filters to create bright, shimmering blooms or dark, rich sound beds. In short, we’ve updated a classic effect with all the convenience and tweakability of a Soundtoys plug-in.
